Trending Barbering Techniques

If you’re a barber or are looking to pursue a barbering career, you know that trends in barbering are constantly changing. To be successful at what you do, you have to stay on top of the most popular trends so you can provide your clients with the cuts and styles they want. Here are some of the trending styles and the techniques you’ll need to master for this year.

Naturally Tousled

It’s likely you’ve noticed that longer hair especially on top with tousled, natural waves has become increasingly popular with both men and women. Master shag cuts and layering techniques to give some perfection to those waves and embrace these casual, unfussy styles.

Modernizing the Mullet

You may remember the mullet being hot in the 80s and 90s. This style, often referred to as “business in the front, party in the back”, has shorter hair on top and longer in the back. Today’s mullets can be a little more edgy, by combining the mullet with a drop fade or undercut technique. Or they can be a little more subtle, with the hair on the top being a little longer, and the transition from front to back being more gradual.

Get Frosty

Another trend that’s coming back from the 80s and 90s is men getting their hair frosted/ bleached/ highlighted. Make sure you know how to achieve these looks and understand the technique to transition from dark hair to platinum blonde safely and gradually minimalizing damage, breakage, or copper tones.

Feel the Buzz

Buzzcuts are also back in style, for both men and women, and this edgy style combined with bright pops of color or white blonde can be a real head-turner. Hopefully, you’ve already mastered the buzz cut because you may be getting a lot of practice as this trend heats up for summer.
