A Conversation with Isabelle, Celebrity Barber Student

We sat down with Isabelle, a current barber student who turned a love for cutting her own hair into a clear vision for her future. She shares what inspired her to pursue barbering, how she found confidence in a traditionally male-dominated field, and the mindset that keeps her focused on her goals.
When did you realize barbering was for you?
So it started off with me doing my own haircuts for, like, two years. I just kind of grew a passion for it. I grew love for it. So I thought, you know, let’s just incorporate it into my future. And that’s just what kind of brought me here.
Did you feel intimidated starting in a male-dominated industry?
It was a little intimidating at first, but I could honestly say that if I push my skills to the max, I can surpass everybody else around me. I don’t feel like it’s gender oriented. It’s more about the passion and the love you put to it.
Anything you put your mind to, you can honestly accomplish. If you love something, within time, you can eventually live out of it.
Any advice for the next woman in barber school?
They just need to come in and give everything that they got. Doesn’t matter what anybody else is doing around them, doesn’t matter the gender that’s around them. You’ve got to focus on yourself. Always visualize your future, and if you put your mind to it, you’re gonna go ahead and get it.
