Q&A with Cosmetology Instructor Julia Campillo

One of the reasons to choose Celebrity School of Beauty is our incredible instructor team. Some of our staff are Celebrity alumni themselves who wanted to come back to make a difference. Join us as we catch up with Julia Campillo (@jujuhairstylz), who is currently an instructor for our evening Cosmetology program students as well as a licensed hair stylist in Coral Gables.

Hi, I’m Julia Campillo. I’m a hairstylist during the day and at night a cosmetologist instructor.

Can you share a quick summary of your career path since graduation and what you role is today?

Okay, so I started as an apprentice as I was in school, so I was an assistant for the whole two-year program that I was in. It lasted about 16 to 18 months. Once I graduated, I was a fully licensed stylist, and that’s when the school reaached out to me in regards to wanting to be an instructor here at the nighttime English cosmetology class.

What stands out most about how Celebrity prepared you for success? Any favorite instructor or course?

Yes, I do have an absolute favorite instructor. His name is Mr. Paul. He was amazing. He was tough. He was on point. He would make sure that I had everything ready for when I graduated.

What motivates you? What are your aspirations at this point in your career?

I would say the things that motivate me would have to be my family and also just my drive for my artistic side. I love drawing, art, makeup, hair, so that’s really what continues to drive me and give me motivation to do things that I love.

What advice would you give to a new student just starting at Celebrity now?

I would say commitment and staying consistent is the biggest thing about school. Just try your hardest to stay consistent, because that’s the main thing, so you can graduate as quickly as possible so you can start doing what you love.

Do you have a memorable story from when you studied at Celebrity?

I do. There was a trouble client [who] was giving me a hard time. And in the end, I walked her through it; she loved her hair. Even though it might have not been what she wanted, she ended up loving it. It was a highlight service, and she wanted something bold. I told her, let’s go more subtle. And it ended up working out perfect. She loved it.
